- David Butler is the winner of the College Research Award. David is nationally known for his work on tendon and ligament repair, a field in which he was one of the pioneers and which has become known as functional tissue engineering. David joined the faculty at UC in 1976, and moved to the College of Engineering in 1983. His accomplishments have marked him as a leader in the national bioengineering and biomechanics community, earning him three major honors from the Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He also won the Gustus L. Larson Award of ASME. In addition to his research work, Dave was a prime mover in the establishment of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. He is a founding Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineers and a Fellow of ASME.

-2009 COE Engineering Tribunal Awards
We are pleased to congratulate Mary Beth Privitera, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering in being awarded the “Professor of the Year” for 2008! Professor Privitera was selected by the College of Engineering students and awarded a plaque during the 2009 College of Engineering Tribunal Awards Banquet on Saturday, February 21, 2009 @ the Paul Brown Stadium, Club West Lounge.
Mary Beth Privitera was also Professor of Quarter of 2008. Mary Beth Privitera encouraged students to actively think and problem solve by offering unique learning experiences in the Biomedical Engineering field. Students became highly interactive and learned the value of team building!
-Dr. Christy Holland is the winner of this year's Richard Akeson teaching award. This award was initiated to recognize the contributions of outstanding faulty in graduate programs in the College of Medicine.
-Linda Moeller is the recipient of the 2008 Sarah Grant Barber Outstanding Advising Award
-Please join me in congratulating Kate Hitchcock and Vivek Kaimal on being awarded the Ryan Fellowship for the next two years. They will receive an increase in their stipend as well as an opportunity to present their research in Woods Hole, MA in the coming spring quarter.
